Here's the question:
What percentage of time during the day should a regular walking around middle class person think about shooting people, dogs and things?
The answer is most educational. Read it here at Michael Bane's blog. Continue
I am so excited...There WILL be an X-files movie this summer. The trailer seemed to come right out of the blue. This was my favorite show through high school and college (yes, I know I am a dork). Awesome direction and loved the writing. My college roommate and I even had a not so secret crush on Mr. Duchovny. Which brings me to this kind of creepy song:

Leesburg Today reports (story is not yet online) the stall of the recent transportation session and describes the Senate's plan to increase gas tax over six years. Senator Herring (D-33) attempted to sell the increase: "Virginia is among the lowest when it comes to gas tax rates. After six years, when it's fully implemented, it would still be below the national average." That is a piss poor attempt to validate a tax increase. Virginia is below the national average for the following taxes:

Gulf Times reports that many bio-fuel companies are filing for bankruptcy siting low profit margins and soaring costs of soy oil. The question is not IF but WHEN WILL Congress vote to bailout the bio-fuel companies. It will be another attempt to prop up and incentives unprofitable businesses who make bad decisions (while taxing and penalizing profitable com… Continue

The Economist reports that the Bureau of Land Management is halting solar plant production siting environmental concerns. How long has solar energy been available? And we're just now trying to determine environmental impact? Poppy cock.
The real story is that the solar industry predicts that if solar tax credit is not renewed then that will mean the end of their industry. This re-iterates what conservatives have… Continue

OK...I am officially grossed out by a seemingly very healthy, in-shape, cut Olympic diver...make that divers. The men's bathing suits that one can now reasonable describe as a band-aid has have shrunken so much so that an athlete that I would normally describe as having an anti-butt in another other situation has successfully produced a plumber butt at the Olympic trials. Check out NBC if you dare, but consider yourself warned. Continue

Well I've done it. I finally made a decision. I am voting for Obama. No, it's not Change that drove the decision. Big government isn't so bad; I won't have to have as much responsibility as I do now. Working harder so I can keep less of my money doesn't appeal to me, but I'll survive. I don't like his ignorance with foreign policy. Who needs foreign policy experience when you have Secretary of State and Defense. Now that I know that… Continue

Ok, so I know Logipundit will be posting on this topic. Prescription Drug Bill, Guitmo Detainee Rights, and now this! There had to be a breaking point and this is it! This makes me so pissed off that I have to vent.
The Republican party is left and the Democrats are communists. There, I said it. The Dems now feel like they can actually say what they think without having to coddle the public with promises of Change. If the Dems have their way, Change is a… Continue

I go by the internet moniker "ptgustan", which is reduced from Porky T. Gustan. Porky is a nickname for Pablo. The entire alias (for I have never used my real name on line) was derived from a phrase in a Basic Spanish textbook: "¿Porque, te gustan las chicas? I'm an old man, past 60 years, and mostly retired. I've had a careen instead of a career. My work included, but wasn't limited to, being a history teacher, language teacher, gentleman farmer, interior decorator, retail merchant, hired gun a… Continue

OK…A little healthy, or unhealthy, mix of entertainment and political theory. Bear with me.
Believe it or not, I’ve put a lot of thought lately (meaning about the last 4 years or so) into how important it is for us to think deeply about why we believe what we believe, and why seeing different perspectives is not only useful, but absolutely necessary to put our own views in their proper context.
With that in mind, let me reiterate what I’ve pointed out in a previous post, and this will likely b… Continue

Over on Reason’s Hit and Run Blog the libertariat and other readers weighed in on the whole Obama/Wright kerfuffle and Obama’s response. Overall the comments were negative about Obama and what was seen as his weak response to Wright’s comments, Michelle Obama’s supposed anti-Americanism and signs some see of Obama’s own lack of patriotism.
I made the following comment that went ignored by the mob:
“Most of you commenting here are most likely 1) whit…Continue
Yes, I used to be the blogger known as Garth Trevethan, a nom de plume that might yet be resurrected. I abandoned my old Libertarian-minded blog (Musings from America's Outback) as my life became increasingly complicated and I no longer had the time needed to keep it up the way I would have liked.
I will relate a longer story about my whats and hows later, but suffice to say I do have an active blog focusing on my efforts to build a strawbale house in the middle of high dessert country in New M… Continue
